Input and Output Devices


What is an Input Device?

An Input Device is a hardware device used to enter data and instructions into a computer. The computer receives information through these devices.

Common Input Devices

1. Keyboard

A keyboard is used to type letters, numbers, and symbols.

 

Main parts of keyboard:

  • Alphabet keys
  • Number keys
  • Function keys (F1–F12)
  • Arrow keys
  • Spacebar
  • Enter key

2. Mouse

A mouse is a pointing device used to select items on the screen.

 

Parts of mouse:

  • Left button
  • Right button
  • Scroll wheel

3. Scanner

A scanner converts paper documents or photos into digital form.

 

Use: Scanning documents, photos, and certificates.


4. Microphone

A microphone is used to enter voice or sound into the computer.
